In order to believe in a beautiful future we need to first experience it.
We approach mixed media collage making as intuitive world building, constructing strange and beautiful other-worlds in which Black people are thriving, sovereign and free. Our collages are inspired by ancestral stories and experiences of opacity, fugitivity, African communalism, and marronage.
What if autonomous maroon societies had continued and thrived into the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd centuries?
We are depicting and exploring Black utopias, an archipelago of interconnected liberated zones.
